The One Who Notices

There’s something about getting ready for a special event-
A wedding, a party, a night that means something.
You become aware of yourself in a different way.
Not just how you look,
But how you’ll be seen.

You check your reflection a little longer.
Adjust something that was fine a moment ago.
Wonder if you’ll walk in feeling right,
Or a little bit off.

But –

Nobody cares.
Really.
No one’s watching that closely.

Except you.

You notice the way your dress fits.
The makeup smudge you spot while looking in the mirror.
The way your laugh sounded too loud,
or maybe not loud enough.

You notice, because you’re in it.
Not because you’re vain,
Just because you’re human.

Don’t get stuck there.
Nobody’s watching you
The way you think they are.
Just know that they’re looking at their own reflection in the windows and mirrors,
Hoping to see a reason to feel beautiful too.
